N.J. weather forecast: Nor'easter brings rain to the east, snow to the west

An unusual winter storm will be organizing off the Virginia coast today and track through the New Jersey coastal waters tonight producing rain, snow, strong winds, and coastal flooding for the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas.
As precipitation rapidly approaches the coast this morning, clouds will increase and temperatures will hold in the upper 30's to lower 40's before falling into the mid to upper 30's this afternoon. Rain will develop along the immediate coast with a mix of rain and snow just away from the coast and over the Philadelphia metropolitan areas. Winds will increase from the northeast at 1o to 20 mph with gusts over 45 mph through the day.
Tonight on through early tomorrow morning, the area of low pressure will track from the New Jersey coastal waters to the New England coastal waters producing moderate to heavy rainfall along the immediate coast and moderate snowfall over western New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, the Hudson River Valley, and northwestern Connecticut. Rainfall amounts will range from one to two inches. Snowfall amounts will rang from 1 to 4 inches for most locations, but up to 6 inches along the Delaware River where lifting will be enhanced. Meanwhile, winds will back from northeast to northwest at 15 to 30 mph with gusts over 45 mph. Coastal flooding will reach moderate levels with waves 1 to 3 feet above normal tidal levels, possibly pushing to 5 feet in some locations. The worst coastal flooding will be tonight into early tomorrow morning. Temperatures will fall into the lower to mid 30's for most locations, upper 30's along the immediate coast.
High pressure will take hold tomorrow evening and remain in control through Monday with tranquil weather conditions taking hold. A cold front will follow on Tuesday with scattered showers. Windy conditions can be expected on Friday with temperatures in the upper 20's to mid 30's for lows and upper 40's to lower 50's for highs. Mild conditions will build into the region Saturday through Tuesday with lows in the mid 40's to lower 50's and highs in the upper 50's to mid 60's.
